61611: Alexander John Kennedy
Alasdair Iain Mhurchaidh Choinnich
Alexander John (1916-1972) was a son of Murdo Kennedy and Rachel Mackay, 14b Arivruach. He attended the Nicolson Institute and Aberdeen University and was called up for service and joined the Royal Air Force. Alexander John was sent abroad, was captured by the Japanese and interned in a prisoner of war camp. After his release, he returned home.
At Southend, in 1946, he married Donaldina Kennedy, 14a Arivruach. Alexander John and Donaldina settled at the old Arivruach Schoolhouse, renamed 18 Arivruach and they had two children.
He took up employment as a weaver until 1967 when he joined the staff of the Department of Health and Social Security in Stornoway.
