Neil MacDonald was born in 1859, the son of Alexander MacDonald and Dorothy MacVicar of croft 3 Boreray. In 1891 Neil married Rachel MacAskill on her home island of Berneray. They were to have a family of six children. They lived as cottars on his parents’ croft, later moving to 19 Grenitote.
