90955: Peter Macsween

Peter (1846-1919) was a son of Donald Macsween and Christina Campbell. In 1851 the family obtained 3a North Tolsta as a newly lotted croft.

In the 1850s Donald's father left North Tolsta and possibly emigrated to Canada but nothing further was heard from him.

The family left Tolsta in 1853 and in 1861 his mother and younger siblings are living with his aunt in Tong. Peter May have lived with his uncle, John.

He was a Shoemaker and  living in Mallaig in 1871 when he married Anne Maclellan at the Roman Catholic Chapel in Bracara. Peter and Anne settled for a short time at Glenelg, Lochaber where their first child, Catherine  was born. The family moved to Kilmallie on the border of Argyllshire and Inverness-shire where they had five children.

The family emigrated to Australia in 1883 on the SS Otago. During the voyage their daughter, Christina died in January and their daughter, Flora was born in March. The family settled in Byrnestown, Queensland where the couple are buried.
