Duncan (1836-1894) was the son of Alexander Mackay and Isabella Martin of 33 Old Back. In 1858 his parents obtained 23 Back, as a newly lotted croft.
He married Catherine Morrison of 46 North Tolsta. Duncan and Catherine lived at 23 Back and they had seven children.
