10625: Gravestone of Alexander Simpson

Inscription on the gravestone of the Reverend Alexander Simpson (1761-1830), in Sandwick Cemetery, Stornoway:

Here lie the remains of
the Rev Alexander Simson
late Minister of Lochs
who departed this life
the 23rd of July 1830
being the 68th of his age
and the 45th of his ministry
also the remains of
Janet Graham his spouse
who died the 14th December 1810 aged 45
and of their son
who died 1 Aug 1796 aged 2 years.

This stone was erected by their surviving children
as a tribute of respect to the memory of their parents
on the 5th Oct 1831

Also their grandson
the Reverend Alexander Simpson Bethune
late Minister of the government church of Knock
who died there suddenly on the
14th day of November 1860 aged 38 years

Be ye also ready
for in such an hour as ye think not
the son of man cometh.
