Comann Eachdraidh Sgìre a’ Bhac (Back Historical Society) SCIO in its current form was established in 2018. It’s aim is to preserve and share all aspects of the history, culture and traditions of the Back area of the Isle of Lewis, including the settlements of Back, Coll, Upper Coll, Vatisker and Gress. At present the Comunn is situated in the Heritage Cabin on the site of the old school. The Comann meets monthly to discuss projects and aims to preserve local Gaelic culture and heritage, and also organises events, talks, ceilidhs and weekly community activities.
A historical society had previously existed from 1984 until the late 1990s.
