Marion Nicholson, born 1787, on Skye, married John MacDermid. By 1811 they had moved to Ruisgarry on the isle of Berneray, where John worked at burning kelp. With the failure of the kelp industry and the re-organisation of the crofts in Ruisgarry, the family emigrated to Loch Lomond, Cape Breton sometime after 1841.

Marion is buried at Lochside Cemetery, Mount Auburn.
