Neil Macdonald (1885-1956) was a son of Alexander Macdonald and Isabella Macdonald, 9 Habost. The family later moved to 1 Habost.
In Stornoway, in 1914, he married Alexina Smith, 2 Balallan. Neil and Alexina settled at 9 Habost and they had four children.
On September 26, 1918 he enrolled with the Royal Naval Reserve S/N DA2217. His record indicates that he was 5ft 6in tall with blue eyes and a fresh complexion. He was immediately Mobilised and served in the Royal Navy in the last year of the First World War based at HMS Pembroke and HMS Gunner. He is mentioned in Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
