11498: Alexander Macdonald

Alasdair Sheumais Chaluim

Alexander (1851-1928) was a son of James Macdonald and Isabella Mackenzie, Crossbost. The family later moved to 9 Habost.

In Lochs, in 1884, he married Isabella Macdonald, 14 Balallan. Alexander and Isabella settled at 1 Habost and they had nine children.        

There were three members of Alexander's family in active service during the First World War as follows:

Malcolm (1887-1915)  was a Sergeant in the Camerons. He served in the army for 6 years, first in India before coming to the Western front where he was killed in action in Belgium on 8th May 1915 aged 28.

Neil (1885-1956) served in the Royal Naval Reserve Trawlers.

James (1896-1-1964) was a ship's mate in the Royal Naval Reserve.
