Peter was a son of Peter and Catherine Margaret nee Smith.

Excerpt from Stornoway Gazette;

Peter Gillies, Architect. Died on 30th December 2005 at Melbourne, Australia, where he had made his home. Beloved husband of Sheila, father of Fiona and Roderick, son of the late Mr & Mrs Peter MacDonald, Stornoway, brother of Mrs A O’Bryan-Tear (Addie) of London and the late Mrs H Innes (Hetty) of Inverness. Cremation has taken place in Melbourne and interment to Bosta Cemetery, Bernera, Isle of Lewis will be announced at a later date. "Tir mo chridhe, tir mo dhuthcais Sin an uir s’an caidilinn"

According to family information, Peter died on 1st January 2006.
