7252: Donald Macdonald
Donald (1922-2010) was a son of John Macdonald and Henrietta Mackenzie, 11 Kirkibost. He was known as Lazarus as he was born premature and was not expected to live. The family moved to Gisla in 1946, after Donald and his brothers were demobbed.
Donald married Ann Macdonald, 11 Geshader and they settled at Riverside, Gisla. They had one son and two daughters.
In 2006 Donald is the last crofter in the area to make hay by hand – maintaining the lazybeds, and mowing, lifting and stacking the hay using only traditional implements.
