Murdo (1876-1962) was the son of Alexander Smith and Mary Maciver. The family were cottars at 24 North Tolsta.

Murdo married Jessie Graham, of 8 Back, and the couple settled as cottars at 24 North Tolsta. They re-named the house 24b North Tolsta. The couple had two children; both boys.

Murdo was widowed in 1910.

Murdo's second marriage was to Jessie Maciver, of 14 North Tolsta. The couple settled as cottars at 24 North Tolsta and had four children: three girls and a boy. 

In due course the cottars house at 24b North Tolsta passed to their son Angus.
