103861: 4 North Tolsta

4 Tolastadh bho Thuath

4 North Tolsta was a new croft in 1851 and the first tenant was Donald Macleod. The croft was passed to his son in law Murdo Maciver and he passed 4 North Tolsta to his son, Alex.

Alex Maciver  passed the croft to his daughter who sold the house to a man from North Tolsta.

Cottars
There was also a cottars house at 4 North Tolsta. Alexander Macleod and Ann Macdonald passed the house to their son-in-law Allan Murray. The family moved to 22 Gress in 1921 and the house was sold to the Free Presbyterian Church.

The Free Presbyterian Church bought the house for missionary, Angus Macrae. For several years after Mr Macrae's death the Free Presbyterian Church allowed the house to be let out to those in need of short term accommodation. The house was a small single story white painted building with a tarred roof.

The house was then bought by Ann Maciver of 19c North Tolsta. She never married and the house passed to her nephew, Murdo Murray who moved to Inverness and the house passed to Patrick Reid of Stornoway.

Patrick Reid sold the house to Donald Campbell  and his widow, Joan sold the house to John Murray of 77 North Tolsta. John put a second storey on the house and when he died the family moved away.

The house was sold, but the owners abandoned it and it became dilapidated. It was eventually demolished.
