9 Old North Tolsta was a newly lotted croft in 1830. The first occupants were Alexander Murray, Janet Murray and son, Angus. The croft passed to Angus.

Angus Murray married Catherine Maciver of South Dell and once settled at 9 Old North Tolsta the couple had seven children: Mary, Isabella, Christina, Donald, Kenneth, Jessie and Margaret. In 1853. when Old North Tolsta was decrofted to make Tolsta Farm, the recently widowed Catherine took her children to live at 52 Swainbost.
