70787: Norman Paterson
Norman, born 1820, was the son of Alexander Paterson and Margaret MacKillop of Borve. The site of their home was later known as Tobhta Alasdair ‘ic Thormoid.
Norman married Catherine MacAskill, daughter of ground officer John MacAskill, 7 Ruisgarry. Together they were to have eight children. By 1851 Norman was living in Inaclete Road, Stornoway, working as a journeyman ship carpenter. With his family at that time was his widowed mother Margaret. Norman returned to Berneray in 1854 as tenant of 9 Ruisgarry (Gunhill). On his death in 1885 the croft passed to his oldest son Alexander.
