Roderick (born 1892) was a son of Malcolm Mackay and Catherine Nicolson, 7 Achmore.
He married Ann Macaulay, 16 Shulishader. The couple settled at 16 Shulishader and they had two daughters. The couple ran a shop across the road from their house.
Roderick was widowed in 1939 when Ann died suddenly. Ann's sisters Peigi and Christina helped Roderick bring up the girls.
