111084: Alexander MacDonald

Alexander (1884-1917) was the son of Norman MacDonald and Ann MacDonald, cottars on 6 Balmartin.  Known as Alex, he was an apprentice shoemaker before he emigrated to Australia.  During the Great War, he enlisted with the Australian Army Medical Corps, serving as a private in Gallipoli and with the 1st Australian General Hospital.
