John (1822-1900) was the son of Alexander Maciver and Christina Murray. In 1841 the family moved to 40 Old Coll and in 1851 his father had a joint tenancy with his father at  32 Coll.

John married Isabella Beaton of 15 Vatisker. The couple settled at 32 Coll and they had eight children.
