116947: Malcolm Macleod

Malcolm (1866-1954) was the son of Alexander Macleod and Ann Macleod of 25 Aird Tong. By age 17 he was the skipper of a fishing boat. Malcolm was a fisherman a crofter and ran the local Post Office and shop. He later became a county councillor.

In 1891 he married Mary Smith of 13 Tong. In 1895 he purchased 5 Tong from Malcolm Smith when he moved to Steinish. Malcolm and Mary settled at 5 Tong and they had six children. Several of their daughters emigrated to the United States of America. They raised their grand daughter, Annie, after her mother emigrated.

Malcolm purchased 6 Tong from Donald Macinnes and 5 Tong and 6 Tong were worked as a single croft for a time.
