Hugh (1809-1853) was the son of Donald Maclennan and Mary Macaskill. His parents were from Scarp. In 1820 his fathers name appears on the rental list for Buanish and by then the family were settled at 7 Buanish. The village was cleared in 1826 and the family left for Tong. His fathers name appears on the 1829 Tong rental list and by then the family were settled at 7 Tong.

Hugh married Isabella Matheson of 13 Aird Tong. The couple settled at 17 Old Gearraidh Ghuirm and in 1839 they obtained 37 Old Coll. The family later moved to 15 Coll
