117671: Hugh Maclennan

Hugh (1809-1853) was the son of Donald Maclennan and Mary Macaskill; it is not clear where the family were living at the time of his birth. Both of his parents had lived in Scarp, Harris.

In 1820 his fathers name appears on the rental list for Buanish and by then the family were settled at 7 Buanish. The village was cleared in 1826 and the family left for Tong. His fathers name appears on the, 1829, Tong rental list and by then the family were settled at 7 Tong.

Hugh married Isabella Matheson, of 13 Aird Tong, and the couple settled at 17 Old Gearraidh Ghuirm.

In 1939 the obtained 37 Old Coll.

In 1840 they obtained 15 Coll. In due course 15 Coll passed to their youngest son: Alexander.
