118203: John Macleod

John (born c1850) was the son of Donald Macleod and Mary Maclennan of 1 Old South Tolsta; the family lived with his uncle at 1 Old South Tolsta.

In 1851, during the croft relottings, his uncle obtained 36 North Tolsta and the family settled there with him. 

In 1857 the family obtained 58 North Tolsta as a newly lotted croft.

He and his brothers attended school in Stornoway.

John joined the Royal Engineers. He settled at Lewis House, Margaret Road, Southsea, Portsmouth. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

On the 11th of August 1880, in Glasgow, he married Marion Liddle, of 139 St George Road, Glasgow. Marion was the daughter of Peter Liddle of Gress Farm. It is not known where the couple settled.

He was promoted to Lieutenant.
