121064: Duncan Anderson

Duncan Anderson (1898-1917) was a son of Mr Anderson and Mary Macleod, Glasgow, ex 5 Kershader.

During his childhood he and his two brothers came to live with his Uncle, Donald Macleod, 5 Kershader. The boys attended Kershader School.

He was Mobilised in August 1914 and served in the 2nd Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders in the First World War. During the Somme offensive in 1914 he was promoted to Corporal and was made chief bomber of his company.  Donald was killed on April 11, 1917 and  was buried in Brown’s Copse Cemetery, Rouex, grave number II.E.33. His name is mentioned in  <<118515##Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-18 >> and he is commemorated on Pairc War Memorial and Stornoway War Memorial.
