124426: Donald Maclean

Domhnall Dhomhnaill Iain

Donald (1843-1869) was the son of John Maclean and Christina Maclean, 4 South Bragar.

At Carloway, in 1868, he married Mary Maclean, 18 South Bragar.   Donald and Mary lived at 4 South Bragar and they had a daughter, Christina.

It is said that Donald was taking home peats in a creel when he saw some of the village men trying to pull a plank of wood to shore. Wood was very precious to the islanders at that time and he went to help them. While they were struggling with the wood a freak wave washed over them and he was drowned.
