John (1796-1867) was the son of Malcolm Mackay and Ann Mackenzie, Peinthinndelein. The family moved to 2 Old Achmore in the 1820s.
In Lochs, in 1825, he married Catherine Macmillan from Kirkibost. John and Catherine settled at 6 Achmore and they had ten children.
