Iain Choinnich

John (1836-1903) was a son of Kenneth Mackenzie Coinneach Bad a' Chrò and Isabella Macdonald, Crobeg. He  went to Glasgow University and thought to do a Divinity course. Family circumstances brought him home and in 1861 he is living with his parents and is Schoolmaster at Cromore. John moved to 24 Cromwell Street, Stornoway.

At 2 Cromwell Street, Stornoway, in 1876, he married Johanna Ross, 2 Cromwell Street, Stornoway and formerly of the Parish Schoolhouse, Keose. John and Johanna settled at Derry Cottage, Matheson Road, Stornoway.

John became a partner with his cousin John Macfarlane of Crobeg.  They set up in business as Merchants Mackenzie & Macfarlane, Point Street, Stornoway.
