17496: John Mackenzie
John, son of Kenneth Mackenzie (Coinneach Badachro) and Isobel Macdonald, Crobeg. His father was the last tacksman of Crobeg before it was let to the tenants or Orinsay and Lemreway in 1843. John went to Glasgow University and thought to do a Divinity course. He became a partner with his cousin John Macfarlane of Crobeg and set up in business as Mackenzie & Macfarlane, Stornoway.
