26489: Angus Mackenzie

Aonghas Chaluim Iain Thaillear

Angus (1873-1919) was a son of Malcolm Mackenzie and his second wife Ann Macphail. When Hacklete was resettled in 1880 this family were allocated No 9 but shortly afterwards they swapped crofts with the Macleod family at No 8 Breaclete. Angus was a noted bard and scholar and was acting English teacher in 1901 (probably at Bernera primary school). He was a school teacher and his last post, before he died in 1919 during the flu epidemic, was in Lochboisdale in South Uist. 

Some of his work appears in Bardachd Leodhais.
