Iain Dhomhnaill Phadruig
John (born 1829) was the son of Donald Matheson and Christina Macdonald 1 Erista.
In 1838 the family emigrated to Canada and settled at Cape Breton. His father died in 1845 and the family moved to Winslow, Quebec.
In 1854 he married his first cousin, Catherine Macdonald from Gisla, who has also emigrated with her parents in 1853. John and Catherine six children.
