Donald Smith Macleod (1855-1930) was a son of Murdo Macleod and Annabella Smith,  18 Cromore.  

He attended Cromore School, The Normal School for the Training of Teachers (later named Dundas Vale College) and Glasgow University where he was awarded a Divinity Degree enabling him to become a Minister. 

In 1884 Donald was licensed by the Presbytery of Kintyre to hold duties as a Minister there and later became an Assistant Minister in the Greenock Parish. He was then ordained in the Gaelic Chapel in Tarbat, Cromarty and translated on May 19, 1885 as Minister.

At Maryhill, in 1885, he married Kate Isles Rodger or Wylie, 223 Stobcross Street, Glasgow.  Donald and Kate took up the living at Tarbat and they had thirteen children, all born at the Manse.

Donald retired in 1920 and bought Crossowen in Clynder, Argyll and Bute.

Donald's brother, Kenneth, married Kate's half-sister,  Elizabeth.
