70068: Norman Macritchie

Norman (1909-1942) was a son of Norman Macritchie and Catherine Kerley, 9 Church Street, Stornoway.
On 29 February 1928, he was living 46 Rowney Gardens, Dagenham, Essex when he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve under Service Number CX7809 and at that time was Shore Crew for the Blue Star Shipping Line. Norman later re-enrolled under CX8111. His records stated that he was 5ft 8in tall, with dark hair, green eyes and a fresh complexion. Norman had the index finger of his left hand missing.
At Poplar, London, in 1932, he married Sylvia Jerram. Norman and Sylvia settled in Essex and they had three children.
Noman was Mobilised on 29 November 1939 and served in the Royal Navy in the Second World War. He served at HMS Pembroke and aboard HMS Valiant and HMS Sphinx.
He lost his life in the Mediterranean and is buried at the Alexandria Military and War Cemetery.
