95342: John Smith

John (1781-1862) was the son of Angus Smith and Ann Mackinnon; it is not certain where the family were living at the time of his birth.

It is possible that the family were living in Old South Tolsta Tack by 1820, but this is not at all certain as only one Angus Smith is listed as a sub-tenant of the Tack in 1820, but three Angus Smiths went on to get crofts in the 1830 lottings; so, it is not possible to say if the Angus Smith listed was his father.

John married Mary Macleod, of Gress Tack, but it is not clear where the couple initially settled. They had no children.

In 1830 his parents obtained 12 Old South Tolsta. In due course this passed to John.

In the 1851 croft relottings they became cottars in Tolsta.
