7265: Breakup of Keose Glebe

Extract from the Stornoway Gazette, November 1932

It will be of great interest to the many Lochsmen scattered throughout the world to learn that the Keose Glebe is now being broken up into small holdings. On Monday, the 28th ult, the proprietor cleared his stock off the land, and on the same day the successful applicants for holdings were asked to meet the officials of the Department of Agriculture on the Glebe. The successful applicants were mostly local men from Keose and Laxay. Eleven smallholders are to be settled there. It is worthy of note that the forefathers of some of these men were cleared out of the "Baile Stigh" about one hundred and twenty years ago to make room for the clergymen who them ministered to the needs of the parish.
