74 Tolastadh bho Thuath

74 North Tolsta was a newly lotted croft in 1874 and the first occupants were George Macleod, Mary Campbell and their children: Mary, Kenneth, John, and Barbara. The couple had also had another daughter called Barbara who may have died by this point. Once settled at 74 North Tolsta the couple had a further two children: Donald and Barbara. Both died in infancy.  George's brother John was a cottar on the croft for a time before moving to 23 Coll. The couple's son, Kenneth became a cottar on the croft and in due course 74 North Tolsta passed to their daughter, Barbara.

Barbara Macleod never married and in due course 74 North Tolsta passed to her brother, John.

John Macleod was married to Ann Murray of 52 North Tolsta and they had four children: John, Alexander, Donald and Mary. . In due course 74 North Tolsta passed to their son, Alexander.

Alexander Macleod married Ann Maciver of 62 North Tolsta  and they had five children: three boys and a girl. In due course 74 North Tolsta passed to their eldest son, John.

John Macleod never married.

Cottars:
Kenneth Macleod married Ann Murray of 45 North Tolsta and they lived as cottars at  both 74 North Tolsta and 45 North Tolsta. It is not clear where their eight children were born, but their sons war records are linked to 45 North Tolsta so it seems they were living at 45 North Tolsta around the time of the war. In 1922 the family obtained 2 New Tolsta.

John Macleod, 67a North Tolsta married Catherine Maciver of 23 Coll and they settled as cottars at 74 North Tolsta before moving to 23 Coll to become cottars there. They had five children. The entire family contracted an infectious disease and all but the eldest son died.
