105960: 3/4 Glen Tolsta

In 1884, 3 Glen Tolsta and 4 Glen Tolsta merged into 3/4 Glen Tolsta. The first occupants were John Macmillan, Rachel Carmichael and possibly some of their younger children: their youngest child was 14 years old at the time of merge. The family had previously been living at 4 Glen Tolsta and had obtained 3 Glen Tolsta after their neighbour emigrated to Carolina. In due course their son Alexander became a cottar at 3/4 Glen Tolsta, but the croft eventually passed to their eldest son: Donald.

Donald Macmillan was married to Mary Matheson, of 13 Aird Tong, the couple had their first two children, Hector and Alexander, at 4 Glen Tolsta and their final six, Elizabeth, Alexander, Catherine, Margaret Angus and John, at 3/4 Glen Tolsta. In due course 3/4 Glen Tolsta passed to their son: Angus.

Angus Macmillan married Christina Murray, of 27 North Tolsta, and the couple had four children. The family moved to 7 Gress and in due course 3/4 Glen Tolsta passed to their son Donald John.

Donald John Macmillan never married and in due course passed 3/4 Glen Tolsta to his brother, Murdo.

Murdo Macmillian married Ann Morrison, of 45 South Bragar, and the couple had three children. In due course 3/4 Glen Tolsta was sold to a man from Stornoway.

Cottars:
Alexander Macmillan married Mary Campbell, of 33 North Bragar, and the couple settled as cottars at 3/4 Glen Tolsta. They had six children: Christina, John, Alexander, Donald, Malcolm, and Marion. In due course the cottars house passed to, their grandson, Donald’s son.

After living in the house for a while Donald’s son sold it.
