18902: Jessie Macdonald

Jessie was the daughter of Murdo and Catherine Smith from Druim a Gharraidh. According to tradition Jessie was forbidden to marry Peter, the father of her child. After young John was weaned he was taken to live with his father at Earshader Farm. This was just across the loch from Druim a Gharraidh, close enough for Jessie to hear her child’s voice at play. Peter, it is said, paid for Jessie’s passage to Canada.

Her son John achieved acclaim as the Earshader Bard.
