46818: Margaret Isabelle Gerrie

Margaret Isabelle (1876-1922) was the daughter of Robert Gerrie and Julia Pringle, of Stoneyfield Farm, Stornoway.

At some point the family obtained Tolsta Farm from the Newall family.

Margaret was living at Goathill Farm, Stornoway when she met Donald Martin, Holm Farm and formerly of Crobeg Farm. At Edinburgh, in 1889, the couple married and settled at Holm Farm. Margaret and Donald had a daughter, Flora Julia Pringle Martin.

Donald's sister, Julia was a nurse in Stornoway and lived with the family.

Margaret was widowed on the 12th of March 1904 when Donald drowned in Stornoway Harbour.

At Edinburgh on the 16th of August 1906 she married Frederick Newall whose family came from Skipton, Yorkshire. Margaret and Frederick settled at Holm Farm and they had two children.

In 1910 they emigrated  Canada on the SS Megantic from Liverpool to Montreal, then by train to Strathmore, Alberta where her brother, William had already settled.  In June they settled at Eastview Farm, Strathmore, Alberta and they had another two children.

In 1922 Margaret Isabelle died of cancer.
