49445: Donald Macleod

Donald Macleod (1909-1991) was a son of Donald Macleod and Margaret Macrae, 11 Cromore.

The family later moved to Hillside House, Caros, Cromore.

He enrolled in the  Royal Naval Reserve, S/N AX14193, BX8798 and CX7700, on November 21, 1927. His record indicates that he was 5ft 10in tall with dark hair, brown/grey eyes and a fresh complexion. Donald was a fisherman on Stornoway registered fishing boats, The Chasy, the Constance, the Thistle, and  the Columbine. He was Mobilised on August 27, 1939 and served in the Royal Navy throughout the Second World War. Donald was based at HMS Europa engaged in Minesweeping and later at Stornoway. He was granted Agricultural Leave in Cromore in 1942, 1943 and 1945.

In Lochs, in 1941, he married Mary Ann Macarthur, 2 Crossbost. Donald and Mary Ann settled at 27 Crossbost and they had four children.
