6296: Allan Macaskill

Allan (1864-1944) was a son of Donald Macaskill and Margaret Nicolson, 26 Gravir. In 1881 he was working for his widowed sister, Isabella at 10 Gravir.

In Lochs, in 1881, he married Johanna Macmillan, 20 Gravir.  Allan and Johanna settled at 20 Gravir and they had nine children. The family later built Lake House some time after 1923. Allan was widowed in 1938.

To support his family Allan was a Crofter, Fisherman, Royal Naval Reservist and in the winter a Weaver.

His daughter Peggy gives an account of her childhood.
