John (born 1832) was a son of Murdo Mackenzie and Margaret Macrae. In 1833 the family obtained 8 Old South Tolsta but in 1834 they left to become cottars in Old Back.

In 1851 the family obtained 46 Back and settled there.

John married Jessie Murray of 23 Newmarket.
