103869: 11 North Tolsta

11 North Tolsta was a newly lotted croft in 1851; the first occupants were Angus Murray, Margaret Maciver and their children: Isabella, Christina, and Norman. Their daughter Christena was born the year of the move. In 1853 the family emigrated to Canada and settled in Huron Township, Bruce Country. The couple had a daughter Ann that same year and a further three children once settled in Huron.

In 1853 11 North Tolsta passed to Evander Maciver, Christina Maclean and three of their seven children: Kenneth, Evander, and Isabella. The family had previously been living at 3 Old North Tolsta. In due course 11 North Tolsta passed to their son, Evander.

Evander Maciver married Christina Mackenzie, of 39 North Tolsta, and the couple had eight children: Norman, Kenneth, Angus, Angus, Mary, Evander, Murdo, and John. Their daughter Mary became a cottar on the croft, but in due course 11 North Tolsta passed to their son, Norman.

Norman Maciver married Isabella Murray, of 49 North Tolsta, and the couple had eleven children: John, Effie, Angus, Murdo, Evander, Isabella, Angus, Allan, Norman, Donald, and Christina Isabelle. Their son Norman because a cottar on the croft, but 11 North Tolsta eventually passed to their son, Evander.

Evander Maciver married Catherine Mackay, of 37 Garrabost, and the couple had four children including: Norman and Norman.

Cottars:
Mary Maciver, married Malcolm Macleod and the couple had their first four children: Donald, John, Henrietta and Malcolm. In 1895 the family moved to 58 North Tolsta.

Norman Maciver married Margaret Maciver, of 72 North Tolsta, and the couple had six children including: Norman. The family moved to Stornoway before emigrated to Canada in 1952.

The cottars house passed to Alexander Maciver and Mary Ann Macleod; by this time the couple’s children had all left home.

Donald Smith, of 24 North Tolsta, married Isabella Macleod, of 56 North Tolsta, it is not clear where the couple’s eleven children were born as the family moved several times; firstly to 56 North Tolsta and then, in 1922, to 11 New Tolsta.
