47 Tolastadh bho Thuath

47 North Tolsta was a newly lotted croft in 1854. The first occupants were Donald Campbell, Lily Maciver and, at least four of their seven children: Ann, Donald, Hector, Isabella and Angus. The family had previously been living at 14 Old North Tolsta. Two of the couple's children, Ann and Angus, became cottars at 47 North Tolsta, but in due course it passed to their youngest daughter Isabella's husband, Angus Smith.

Angus Smith married Isabella Campbell and the couple had four children: Donald, Jessie, Donald and Lily. Their eldest son and youngest daughter died in infancy. Angus was widowed in 1887 and he went on to marry Mary Mackenzie, but the couple had no children. In due course 47 North Tolsta passed to his eldest daughter, Jessie.

Jessie Smith married Colin Campbell and the couple had seven children: John, Angus, Isabella, Jessie, Marion, Donald and Colin. Jessie was widowed in 1916 and lost her eldest son in 1918.

On Wednesday the 16th of March 1921, during The Great Gale, the roof was blown off the croft house. Jessie's son, Angus was lying in bed seriously ill at the time and his bedding was also blown away. He was moved first to the barn and then to the nearest house. He died later that year.

In 1937 Jessie's daughter, Isabella had a daughter whom she raised at 47 North Tolsta. In due course 47 North Tolsta passed to Jessie's youngest son, Colin.

Colin Campbell married Christina Maclean and the couple had two daughters. In due course the croft house was feued off from the croft and passed to the eldest daughter, and the croft passed to the younger who does not currently lived on the croft.
 


The Cottars

Angus Campbell married Ann Nicolson and the couple settled as cottars at 47 North Tolsta. The couple had no children. After she was widowed Ann married again and settled at 37 North Tolsta.
 


Ann Campbell married Murdo Murray and the couple settled as cottars at 47 North Tolsta. The couple had seven children, Christina, Neil, Donald, Alexander, Christina, Donald and John, before moving to 71 North Tolsta in 1874. They had their final child, Murdo, at 71 North Tolsta.
