The first tenant of 38 Back  was  Alexander Macleod (born 1791)  from 5 Old Back and he passed the croft to his  son-in-law, Kenneth Macaulay (born 1836) Coinneach Aonghais Aonghais. The family emigrated to Canada and 38 Back was added to 39 Back in 1888.
