John (1839-1922) was a son of Lewis Macrae and Mary Smith, 8 Habost.
In Lochs, in 1868, he married Isabella Montgomery, 23 Laxay. John and Isabella initially settled at 8 Habost with John's parents and by 1881 had settled at 5 Habost. John and Isabella had eleven children, nine of whom survived.
In 1921 John's nephew, Angus Alexander Maclean was living with the family.
