Iain Sheorais
John (1825-1897) was the son of George Hunter, Closeburn, Dumfries. He was a Shepherd and with David Macintosh became joint tenants of Upper Coll Tack from James Rigg. He was in residency by, at least, 1844.
In Dumfries, in 1851 John married Janet Dickson of Mouswald, Dumfries. John and Janet lived at Gress Farm where they had two of their thirteen children. They moved to Arnish Farm and in 1865 moved to Galson Farm where John was the tenant farmer. In 1869 they moved to Upper Coll Tack (Coll Farm).
John was widowed in 1872 and in 1874 he married Mary Latta Houston, of Renfrewshire. The couple lived at Coll Farm and they had four children.
