Iain Neill Mhurchaidh
John (1783-1869) was a son of Neil Macleod and Catherine Mackenzie came from Vuia Mor, Uig. He was the second John in this family.
He married Margaret Macarthur from Aline. John and Margaret lived at 17 Balallan and they had three children.
John was widowed and later married Marion Smith from Valtos, Uig. The couple lived at 17 Balallan and they had seven children.
The family later moved to 19 Balallan. His sister, Christina and family lived with the family before they emigrated to Canada.
John was a witness for the defender at the second hearing of the Lewis/Harris boundary dispute. His grandfather, Murdo was a witness at the first hearing.
