47365: John Macleod

John (1817-1901)  was a son of Malcolm Macleod and Isabella Ross, 4 Cromore. He was a Lay Preacher.

In Lochs, in 1838, he married Jessie Mackay from Sutherland.  It is believed that they met when John was preaching in Sutherland. The couple settled at 4 Cromore and they had a daughter, Christina.

John was widowed c1840 and in Lochs, in 1841, he married Margaret Mackenzie, 5 Old Lemreway. John and Margaret settled at 4 Cromore. In the late 1860s John exchanged crofts with his late sister's husband, John Kennedy, 17 Cromore.

John and Margaret had a daughter, Barbara who married Roderick Macleod, 24 Cromore. The couple lived at 28 Cromore and when Barbara died in 1874, her children came to live with their grandparents at 17 Cromore. When their granddaughter, Catherine married Roderick Montgomery the couple also lived with John and Margaret.
