John (1848-1921) was a son of Finlay Smith and Gormelia Macleod, 2 Cromore. His father was lost at sea and by 1861 the family were living at Cailean Theàrlaich the land between 25 Cromore and 26 Cromore
In Lochs, in 1873, he married Ann Kennedy, 17 Cromore. John and Ann settled at 19a Cromore and they had five children.
John was widowed in 1907 and in 1921 his daughter, Barbara and family were living with John at 19a Cromore.
